What does energy efficiency mean to potential home buyers? One real estate agent provides his insights.
"I ask home sellers to share the cost of their utility bills because we want to give that information to a potential buyer upfront. This is why it bodes well if you already have energy efficiency measures in place.
"If the house has been improved to keep energy bills low, it just makes for a much happier buyer. They don't have that stress of wondering what those energy bills are going to be. That's always a question in a buyer's head.
"It's really about boosting their confidence. If the buyer knows that one bill is $40 a month and another bill is $40 a month, then they can more specifically say what they're comfortable paying for a house."
