Powering Progress: SWEPCO’s External Affairs Manager Leads Economic Growth Dialogue

In June, the Longview Chamber of Commerce concluded its State of the Economy luncheon with a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Mark Robinson, SWEPCO External Affairs Manager in Longview.

The panel, comprised of industry experts, shared valuable insights into the economic growth and promising developments in Gregg County.  

“The economic vitality of local communities is integral to SWEPCO’s success,” Robinson said. “I was honored to lead such an important discussion that brought together diverse perspectives that will undoubtedly contribute to the region’s prosperity.”

Panelists emphasized the advantages of the region as an industrial center and the source of a significant portion of the nation’s manufacturing output.

Wayne Mansfield, President and CEO of Longview Economic Development Corporation, spoke about the recent expansion of the Eastman Chemical Company, which is set to add 200 full-time jobs to the Longview plant, showcasing the county’s ability to attract and support large-scale industrial projects. Lisa Denton, CEO of Kilgore Economic Development Corporation, elaborated on the collaboration between Kilgore College and Longview economic development, which has been instrumental in workforce development and preparing for new projects.

Aaron Demerson, drawing from his experience as the CEO of the Texas Economic Development Corporation, shared insights on how East Texas can continue to attract more business and jobs, focusing on primary jobs and the role of the state in partnership with local communities.

The discussion concluded with a unified vision of creating better career opportunities for residents and those considering moving to East Texas. The panelists agreed that the synergy between community involvement, state support, and business-friendly policies will be key to sustaining the economic boom in Gregg County.

Robinson, serving as the vice chair for the Longview Chamber of Commerce, expressed that the discussion solidified the unified commitment to driving economic prosperity in East Texas, and he took great pride in contributing to this pivotal dialogue.
