FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (February 16, 2023) – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), a subsidiary of American Electric Power (Nasdaq: AEP), will participate in a pivotal construction project taking place this Sunday in coordination with the City of Fayetteville. This collaborative effort aims to facilitate the city's ongoing initiatives to enrich pedestrian and cyclist experiences through expanded sidewalks and bike lanes across Northwest Arkansas.
Scheduled for Sunday, February 18, between 6:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., weather permitting, SWEPCO crews will make essential upgrades and circuit relocation within the North Mission Blvd. area. Circuits, fundamental to our electric distribution systems, play a crucial role in delivering power from substations to our valued customers.
"Our foremost commitment is to the safety of our customers and dedicated crews," said Bradley Hardin, External Affairs and Government Relations Manager at SWEPCO. "We urge all motorists to exercise heightened vigilance and consider alternate routes where feasible, as we strive to execute our tasks efficiently and safely."
During the construction period, temporary lane closures and potential traffic disruptions may be experienced on North Mission Blvd. from North St. to Old Wire Rd. Affected customers have been notified via phone to anticipate a planned outage during the stipulated construction timeframe.
SWEPCO employees are asking drivers to avoid the designated section of North Mission Blvd. on Sunday from morning hours through the afternoon, to ensure the safety of both work crews and residents. Hardin emphasized the importance of cautious driving practices among all area residents and motorists.
