GENTRY, Ark. (October 14, 2024) –Flint Creek Lake has officially reopened to the public after the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) lifted its advisory, concluding that conditions are safe for recreational activities.

The lake and part of Eagle Watch Nature Trail were closed September 26 out of an abundance of caution, after an algae bloom was discovered in a nearby pond. SWEPCO worked with ADEQ and a third-party lab to conduct lake testing, which determined the lake is safe to reopen.

ADEQ will soon remove its advisory signage from around Flint Creek Lake and the Eagle Watch Nature Trail, which are now fully accessible to the public. The reopening follows weeks of monitoring and independent third-party testing on Flint Creek Lake.

“We are pleased to announce that Flint Creek Lake is safe for recreational use again,” said Flint Creek Environmental Supervisor Scott Carney. “We worked closely with ADEQ and local leaders throughout the advisory period to ensure the health and safety of our community and visitors to the area. We will continue routine monitoring to ensure the lake remains safe.”
