Within 24 hours, crews restored power to 67 percent of affected customers. Efforts to restore power to all customers are ongoing.

Initial Assessments Revealing Icy Impacts

 The majority of weather-related outages were reported in Arkansas (about 23,000) in what is SWEPO’s service region of Texarkana and surrounding areas.

Already, more than 500 on-site and contract crews are positioned in areas predicted to be affected by the storm to begin initial response, specifically in the Texarkana and Longview areas which are forecast for significant ice accumulation. 

From the company’s power plants to its line and utility professionals, the team is reviewing winter weather protocols and is prepared to respond as quickly and as safely as possible.

With severe winter weather bringing Arctic air across the state, SWEPCO is reminding customers of the help available from the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) to pay winter heating bills.

SWEPCO is actively watching the forecasted severe weather which could bring fierce winds, thunderstorms, and possible tornadoes on Sunday in our southern territory.

The AEP Foundation, at the recommendation of SWEPCO, has donated $20,000 to Community Renewal’s Friendship House program, which helps strengthen families and neighborhoods of Shreveport-Bossier City.

These initiatives are designed to enhance SWEPCO's diverse energy portfolio by adding natural gas facilities alongside new wind and solar farms, addressing the growing capacity demands of our customers in a cost-effective manner.
