SWEPCO is improving the environment and maintaining low rates as it diversifies its generation fleet with the addition of renewable energy sources through the completion of the North Central Energy Facilities and through the proposed addition of more wind and solar. Through our available energy efficiency programs, SWEPCO is helping customers act now to prepare for a clean energy future, while enjoying energy savings and a more comfortable home today.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy recognized the achievements of our residential energy efficiency programs with two 2023 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Awards – one for Arkansas and one for Louisiana and Texas. Sustained Excellence is the highest honor among the ENERGY STAR Awards and is presented to partners that have already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years and have gone above and beyond the criteria needed to qualify for recognition.
In Arkansas last year, SWEPCO improved the energy efficiency of 1,851 single-family homes and 1,137 multifamily homes through its Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Pathway. These customers now save more than 8 gigawatt-hours of energy a year – the equivalent to removing more than 1,200 passenger cars from the road for a year or avoiding 14.1 million miles driven.
In Louisiana and Texas, SWEPCO incentivized the purchase of ENERGY STAR-certified products to help households save more than 1.9 million kilowatt-hours of energy – the equivalent to removing 301 passenger cars from the road for a year or avoiding 3.5 million miles driven. ENERGY STAR-certified products installed in customer homes last year included 403 high efficiency air-source heat pumps, 294 smart thermostats, 175 ceiling fans, 127 dishwashers, 57 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations, 31 heat pump water heaters, 25 pool pumps, six air purifiers and two refrigerators.
