SWEPCO Introduces a New Way to Control Your Energy Usage

October 1, 2024

Valerie Dotson, Customer Services Account Representative, and Amanda Keeney, SWEPCO Corporate Communications Director, discuss the benefits of upgraded meter technology. Watch on YouTube.

Ways to Save with SWEPCO airs Tuesday morning between 5 and 7 a.m.

SWEPCO continued its education series to support its customers with tips on how to save time, energy and money. In the latest edition of “Ways to Save with SWEPCO” on KTBS, SWEPCO shared one of the many benefits to customers as meter technology is upgraded.

As SWEPCO continues to deploy advanced or “smart” meters, customers can opt in to more information at their fingertips that gives customers detailed data so they can make informed decisions.

SWEPCO’s advanced meters offer customer education reports that feature detailed usage data and personalized energy reports. These advanced meters and energy reports can help customers manage their electric bills more effectively.

Valerie Dotson, Customer Services Account Representative, and Amanda Keeney, SWEPCO Corporate Communications Director, discuss the benefits of upgraded meter technology.

These advanced meters have been installed already in Texas and are being rolled out to SWEPCO’s Louisiana customers. The education reports offer customers a new level of control over their energy usage. These meters provide real-time data, allowing customers to see exactly how much electricity they are using throughout the day.

"Smart meters give you control that you didn’t have before," says Amanda Keeney, SWEPCO Corporate Communications Director. "They allow our customers to access more personalized usage data, making it easier to make informed, money-saving choices without sacrificing comfort."

Customers with smart meters also receive a personalized Energy Dashboard. This dashboard shows recent energy usage and offers several reports to help monitor and manage consumption, including:

  • High Bill Alerts: These alerts notify customers when their energy usage is projected to result in a higher-than-normal bill, providing an opportunity to adjust usage and avoid surprises.
  • Weekly Energy Breakdown: This report offers week-to-week energy comparisons and projected electric bills, helping customers track their usage patterns.
  • Customer Engagement Report: This report details the benefits of the smart meter and provides tips on how to maximize energy savings.

"The Energy Report is aimed at helping customers reduce their energy consumption and lower their bills," explained Valerie Dotson, Customer Services Account Representative. "Small changes can lead to significant savings. We encourage our customers to take advantage of these programs to reduce their energy usage and costs."

To make the most of smart meters and energy reports, customers can visit www.SWEPCO.com/account/usage. By logging in with their account credentials, they can update preferences and explore the various tools available on their Energy Dashboard.

"At SWEPCO, we're committed to helping our customers manage their energy costs," Dotson said. "By utilizing the personalized energy reports available as part of these advanced meters, customers can make informed decisions that lead to real savings."
