COLUMBUS, Ohio, Dec. 15, 2000 – Electric customers served by AEP’s operating company Ohio Power Company (OP) now have access to "price to compare" information. OP’s tariffs setting out its prices were recently approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). The price to compare is the price a competitor must beat to save a customer money, and is a key piece of information for customers who are interested in shopping for an alternate electric supplier.
Distribution of electricity remains regulated and OP customers with service problems or an outage should still call the company at 1-800-672-2231.
OP’s average price to compare for residential customers is 3.43 cents per kilowatthour. Because this is only an average price, the actual price that will be listed on individual customers’ bills in February may be slightly different because of factors such as amount of electricity consumed, or time of use.
Other tariffs, in cents per kilowatthour, are:
GS-1 (commercial customers, low use) | 4.31 cents |
GS-2 (commercial customers, low load factor, 10 kw or greater) | 4.08 cents |
GS-3 (medium load commercial customers, more than 50 kw) | 3.32 cents |
GS-4 (large load commercial customers, more than 1,000 kw) | 2.93 cents |
EHG (electric heating, general) | 3.39 cents |
EHS (electric heating, schools) | 1.80 cents |
SS (school service) | 4.21 cents |
OL (outdoor light) | 5.50 cents |
Street light | 3.89 cents |
OP customers who choose to switch to another electric supplier should contact their chosen supplier. The customer will need to provide the SDI (service delivery identifier number) that appears on their bill, and not the account number. Customers with multiple service points – for example, home service and outdoor lighting – will need to tell the new supplier each SDI that they want to switch.
More information about electric choice, including a list of suppliers, is available on AEP’s web site at aep.com, and at OhioElectricChoice.com.
