The American Electric Power Foundation (AEP Foundation), at the recommendation of Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), has awarded CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Titus, Camp, and Morris Counties with a $10,000 grant. The funding will be directed towards the implementation of the Grace Cases & Clothing project, which aims to provide essential items for children who are removed from their homes due to unfortunate circumstances.
CASA of Titus, Camp, and Morris Counties, located in Mount Pleasant, TX, is an organization dedicated to training and supervising community volunteers who advocate for safe, permanent, nurturing homes for children in the foster care system. With a mission to ensure the well-being and best interests of these vulnerable children, CASA plays a crucial role in the legal process by representing their needs and providing vital support.
When a child is removed from their parents' care or must relocate to a different placement, they often must leave their belongings behind. In such challenging times, children are in dire need of a way to carry their essentials or personal belongings. The Grace Cases initiative addresses this critical need by providing each child with a thoughtfully curated duffle bag.
A Grace Case is more than just a bag; it represents comfort, support, and the promise of a fresh start. These duffle bags are designed to contain age-appropriate hygiene products, a pillow, a blanket, pajamas, everyday clothing such as shirts, shorts, pants, socks, undergarments, sweatshirts, and most importantly, a pair of shoes.
CASA of Titus, Camp, and Morris Counties plans to utilize the $10,000 grant from the AEP Foundation to provide 82 children with personalized Grace Cases filled with items they need and can use every day.
“These items provide comfort and stability during times of upheaval and transition,” said Jennifer Harland, SWEPCO External Affairs Manager. “By collaborating with CASA, the AEP Foundation and SWEPCO aim to contribute towards a brighter future for these deserving children.”
Recognizing the importance of individual preferences and comfort, CASA also includes comforting items or things that the child likes or may find solace in. By personalizing each Grace Case, CASA ensures that the children feel seen, valued, and cared for during their difficult journey.
“The Grace Cases & Clothing initiative not only meets the immediate needs of children in foster care but also symbolizes hope, stability, and a fresh start,” said CASA Executive Director, Krystal Hosmer. “By worrying less about their basic necessities, these children can focus on healing and building a better future.”
